New Patients
What to Expect
In general, we recommend parents bring their little ones in when they get their first tooth, or by age two. At this visit, we’ll help them get familiar with the office and all the different sights and sounds. If they’re comfortable, we’ll take a quick look at their teeth. Everything we do with children is designed to reduce their anxiety and help them enjoy regular dental care in the future.
As kids get older, we’ll progress to counting their teeth, making sure all their teeth are erupting on time and in the right place. If teeth are being over-retained, we’ll talk to you about options for making space for their adult teeth. We’ll do cleanings, and of course we’ll check for cavities at every visit.
Orthodontics
One benefit of seeing children from a young age is that we can monitor the way their teeth come in and catch problems early on, so we can refer them to an orthodontist if necessary. We also monitor for jaw issues and will make referrals for orthopaedic work as needed.
Prevention Is the Key
Our goal is to help you and your child prevent cavities and other dental problems by maintaining good oral health and hygiene through regular visits and proper oral care at home. Dr Jo advises parents not to bottle feed at night—this is the primary cause of childhood cavities, and is easily avoided.
